Lucrative Careers in the Automotive Industry

If you’re passionate about cars and seeking a career in the automotive industry, there are well-paying options for people with various education levels and skill sets. Whether you’re first deciding on a career path or are a lifelong car lover looking for a fulfilling job, these are some of the positions you can choose from.

Automotive Engineer

For those most interested in the design and craftsmanship of vehicles, a career in engineering may be ideal. As an automotive engineer, you would help manufacturers design new vehicles and update current models, facing the challenge of balancing style, cost, efficiency, and safety. Not only would you design vehicles, but you would also assist in research and production. Because of the comprehensiveness of this career, it is usually high paying and requires a bachelor’s degree.

Auto Body Technician or Mechanic

Types of automotive jobs that are great for car lovers who like to be hands-on are auto body technicians or auto service technicians, also known as mechanics. Body technicians are typically concerned with repairing the exterior of vehicles, such as dealing with a car that’s been in an accident. Service technicians, on the other hand, work with repairs that aren’t typically visible, such as problems with the engine. These jobs usually don’t require higher education, but they may require certification.

Automobile Salesperson or Manager

If you’re both knowledgeable about cars and love working with people, then a career in automotive sales is another great option. As a salesperson, you would help customers decide what vehicle is best for them. If you’re good, you can work your way up to being a sales manager, where you would manage all of the workings in a car dealership. A degree may help you get a job as a salesperson or manager, but if you’re knowledgeable or have experience it may be enough to earn you one of these decent-paying positions.
